DESCRIPTION: APW - Elgin, Grade 149, 21J, 18S, very heavy 14K gold R&F (Robert & Foster) HC recase with "B.P.O.E. Buffalo Lodge No. 23" (Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks) engraved around a buckle detail framing a stag's head to rear, initials to front, gold cuvette, unusual "B.P.O.E." marked fancy white enamel SS dial with blue numerals, red and gold foil accents, colorful flowers and stag head to center, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, nickel damascene, s#6433973. Gross weight of assembled watch 94.7 dwt (147.2 g). Comes as pictured with a fitted wooden Elgin box. An interesting and very unusual piece for the collector of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks items.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, winds stiffly, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright plates with scattered micro-fine scratches with the most notable being a curved micro-fine scratch running across the barrel bridge, very minor oxide to regulator; dial with patched fractures to right perimeter at 3:30, surrounding associated perimeter hls extend between 1:30 and 4; fine-plus hands; case shows light wear, dents and dings along band with the most significant being a dent at 7 and a sharp ding at 12, bow impressions to upper rear shoulder, moderately reduced engraving detail; replacement bow of somewhat different color pivots semi-freely, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal. Box in fine condition, wood split running the length of top along its left side, scattered scratches, dings and scrapes, two holes to bottom, good button latch.
